It’s true love when two become one; Margaret and George trade in old flats for new home

They say two into one doesn’t go but it did for Margaret Paton and George Currie when they both sold their flats and moved in together.
The couple sold their properties and are now happily settled in a new Westpoint Homes apartment.
Margaret said: “We’d been talking for a while about selling both the flats and moving into one.
“We were out walking one day and saw this new development that looked really interesting.
“We liked the look of it because it was only a small development – just 25 flats – not one of these huge complexes you see.
“We looked it up on the web, went back the next day and pretty much decided there and then to buy.”
Margaret, 55, and George made their choice after looking at the plans as construction had only just started.
She said: “We didn’t have any doubts.
We were taken through the different shapes and sizes of the five different types of flat so we were fairly confident. There was one we particularly liked and that’s the one we bought.”
Housing association official Margaret added: “One thing that really attracted us was the en-suite bathroom.
“The flat also has a loft and a utility room so the washing machine is away from the kitchen.”
The couple bought at Westpoint Homes’ Strathcona Drive development of twobedroom flats just north of Anniesland Cross in Glasgow’s west end.
Margaret’s old flat was off Queen Margaret Drive while George, 57, an engineering firm manager, already lived in Anniesland.
She said: “We both prefer newer flats because they’re modern and easy to maintain.
“They also have modern double-glazed windows and much better insulation, which you don’t get in traditional properties.
“I work in housing so I know the maintenance needed for older houses – they can cost a fortune.”
The new flat has a sizeable hallway and the kitchen is separated from the main living and dining area by sliding doors.
Margaret said: “The utility room has plenty of room to store things and George has already floored the attic. We have a lot of boxes of stuff there which we can get at easily when we need things.”
She added: “The kitchen and bathrooms are really nice and they all have highquality fittings.
“The en-suite bathroom has a huge shower, which impressed me. The whole place is absolutely lovely.
“We’re really comfortable here and we think it’s great.”
Westpoint’s Easy Plan incentive covers legal and survey fees up to pounds 1000.
Around two-thirds of the properties are sold and prices for the remaining flats start at pounds 148,000.
